About Farish Recreation Area

“Exclusive Mountain Resort” comes to mind when describing Farish Recreation Area, a 650-acre paradise nestled in the mountains west of the Academy at an altitude of 9,000 feet. Farish is in perpetual motion with fun activities going on all the time. Summertime finds hiking, mountain biking, fishing and camping.

Eligibility

Active/Reserve/Retired Military/Dependent ID card holders/DoD Civilian Employees/and retired DoD Civilians. VA card holders and their caregiver with proper documentation. VA CARD HOLDERS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS ARE NOT ABLE TO SPONSOR ANY ADDITIONAL PATRONS FOR DAY OR OVERNIGHT USE.

Restrictions

Guests staying in lodging may not bring pets onto the facility overnight. Pets are allowed on leash with day-use patrons and overnight in tent, RV sites, Camper Cabins and Duplexs C & D with additional $25 a night fee; owner must pick up after pet. No sewage dump station or water hookups. Potable water is available at locations around the facility. All visitors are advised to call ahead for road and weather conditions prior to making the drive. Entrance fee of $8 per vehicle for day-use patrons.

A USAFA fishing permit is required for anglers 16 years and older which can be purchased online at https://usafa.isportsman.net. Anglers desiring to use two fishing poles must also purchase a USAFA second rod permit. A Colorado fishing license and second rod stamp is not requiredAbout 

Reservation Policies

RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE 90 DAYS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL ACTIVE DUTY MEMBERS, 60 DAYS IN ADVANCE FOR RESERVE/RETIRED MILITARY/DEPENDENT ID CARD HOLDERS/DOD CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES, RETIRED DOD CIVILIANS, 30 DAYS FOR VHIC AND AOG CARD HOLDERS THAT HAVE SERVICE CONNECTED DISABILITIES.

This includes lodging facilities, RV spaces, pavilions, camper cabins, and campgrounds. Reservations can also be made on-site if space is available. TWO NIGHT MINIMUM for ANY lodging stays. Patrons will be charged full amount for the reservation at the same time the reservation is being booked. When reservations are being made for a Friday, Saturday or Holiday, only one eligible patron per family can book a maximum of two units or sites for said time. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance if 50% or more of indoor lodging facilities are being reserved with the exclusion of weekends and holidays. 50% of indoor lodging includes either all 6 Duplexes and/or Cottage and Lodge combined. A contract will be sent via US Postal Service to the individual that made the reservation with dates and total cost. The contract will need to be signed and sent back to Farish within 3 weeks of postage date or the reservation will be canceled.

The entirety of the cost for the reservation will be charged to the patrons account after Farish has received the signed contract. If the reservation is canceled after contract is signed and sent back, a 25% cancellation fee will be assessed. If the reservation cannot be re-booked the patron is charged the full amount. Exceptions to this policy are stated below. Refunds will not be given due to weather, fire restrictions, power outages, insects or other acts of nature.

Cancellations

There will be a 10% ($5 minimum) cancellation fee for ALL reservations. The remaining balance will be refunded if the reservation is cancelled OR CHANGED 15 days or more prior to check-in date. If the reservation is cancelled within the two weeks leading up up to the check-in date, a refund of the remaining balance will only be refunded if the reservation is re-booked. If the reservation is unable to be re-booked the patron is still charged the full amount.

Exceptions to this policy are as follows:

  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders are received as a result of an administrative discharge but not a sentence of confinement in a court-martial, and the renter must depart before the season is over.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) orders for a consecutive 30-day period.
  • Medical reason, statement is provided from qualified medical facility.
  • Closures of roads due to inclement weather inhibiting access to the facility.
